Education

There are 17 secondary schools in the region:

• 12 secondary schools
• Four base schools
• Specialized boarding school
• Children’s arts house
• Center for learning and practice
• Special education center

The schools enroll 2,957 students and the specialized bordering school – 152 children. There are 18 pre-school establishments in the region attended by 829 students. School buses take 274 children to schools.

At present the educational system of the region has 1049 employees, including 554 pedagogues:

• Children’s pre-school establishments – 107 pedagogues
• Schools and non-school establishments – 447 pedagogues

Pedagogues of the region have the following qualifications:

• Higher education – 442,
• Of them 403 work in schools and non-school educational establishments, and 39 – preschool establishments;
• Secondary special education – 107
• Of them 42 work in schools and non-school educational establishments and 65 – in preschool establishments;
• Some 53 specialists take extra-mural courses

The attestation gave the following qualification categories:

• Highest – 40 (7 per cent)
• First-class – 202 (36 per cent)
• Second-class – 166 (30 per cent)

In 2002-2005 some 113 young specialists have been employed in the educational establishments of the region. Some 87 per cent of the pedagogues are natives of the region. There are 17 lyceum groups (in math, Belarusian, Belarusian literature, Russian, Russian literature, physics, biology, English, German) attended by 98 students.

There are six advanced study classes (136 pupils).
